A halter was usually    made from a kerchief or perhaps ribbon and women were labelled &lsquo;hussies&rsquo; after they waved the kerchief in celebration of being sold. <\/p>\n<p> A wife&rsquo;s market was a strange and hysterical    means of disposing of a great unwanted significant other, but it was largely banned in the 19th century. It took a long time just for the custom made to perish out, however , and separated incidents took place    as late because 1972. <\/p>\n<p> For the reason that English    law awarded women house rights and divorce was easier and cheaper to perform, wife sales became extinct.
